The Minority caucus in Parliament is concerned about economic injustice. They believe local contractors are being treated unfairly.
Delays in government payments have forced many contractors to lay off workers. Some have even shut down their operations completely.
The group accused the government of favoring foreign contractors over local ones. They urged the Finance Minister to address this issue urgently.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin stated, “When contractors are not paid, it affects everyone.” He emphasized that non-payments lead to unemployment and harm families.
In response, Minister for Roads and Highways Kwame Governs Agbodza assured that local contractors will be paid. He said, “We will pay all contractors, including those in your constituency.”
He criticized the Minority for only highlighting unpaid contractors without acknowledging others. Agbodza guaranteed that payments would be made.
The Minority also claimed that Parliament faces financial constraints. MP Dominic Nitiwul mentioned that funds for parliamentary operations are being withheld.
He said, “Parliament is begging for money to do its work.”
