The Minority Caucus has urged the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) and the NDC government to stop making excuses. They want an urgent increase in the cocoa producer price. This call comes after COCOBOD announced on April 9, 2025, that cocoa prices would stay the same for the 2025/2026 season.
At a press conference in Kumasi on April 14, 2025, Isaac Yaw Opoku spoke for the Minority Caucus. He is also the Member of Parliament for Offinso South Constituency. He expressed deep disappointment with COCOBOD's decision. He called it a major setback for hardworking cocoa farmers across Ghana.
Opoku said, "We have called you here to express our concerns about our government's failure to adjust the producer price of cocoa." He referenced a letter from COCOBOD dated April 8, 2025. The letter was titled "Cocoa Price Adjustment for the 2025/2026 Cocoa Season."
He pointed out confusion caused by COCOBOD's communications. Another release from their Public Affairs Department stated to disregard any statements about a producer price announcement. They provided two different reasons why they cannot adjust the producer price.
Opoku emphasized their dissatisfaction with these conflicting messages. He stated, "We are shocked and highly disappointed by the two releases." Both releases indicate that COCOBOD and the NDC government will not increase cocoa prices for the upcoming seasons.
