The Minority in Parliament has stopped an attempt by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) to arrest Rev. John Ntim Fordjour. He is the Member of Parliament for Assin South. This incident happened at his home in Spintex, Accra, on Wednesday afternoon, April 9, 2025.
The attempted arrest relates to allegations made by Rev. Fordjour. He claimed two suspicious flights landed at Kotoka International Airport with drugs and cash. Government officials have called these claims baseless.
The Minority argues that the NIB's actions were unlawful and politically motivated. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin spoke to the press about this issue. He said they stood firm to protect their colleague from harassment and intimidation.
Afenyo-Markin criticized the NIB's actions as an attack on parliamentary oversight. He believes it aims to suppress voices raising concerns about national security and accountability.
The Minority has demanded a full explanation from the NIB. They also called on the Speaker of Parliament to intervene against future attempts targeting MPs without due process. They reaffirmed their commitment to defending democratic principles and urged the public to uphold the rule of law.
