Minority calls for swift action to resolve Bawku conflict

The Minority Caucus in Parliament is urging the government to act quickly. They want decisive steps to address the conflict in Bawku. The caucus emphasizes the need for a comprehensive and sustainable response.

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour represents the caucus. He is a Member of Parliament for Assin South and serves on the Defence and Interior Committee. He stated that the government must go beyond temporary fixes.

Fordjour highlighted underlying issues like poverty, inequality, and lack of access to education and healthcare. “The government must act now to restore calm,” he said. He believes a lasting solution requires addressing these root causes.

The Minority urges the government to engage local communities and stakeholders. They want a peace and development strategy that restores stability. This strategy should also promote long-term prosperity for Bawku.

Their appeal aligns with discussions at the United Nations Security Council. Leaders emphasized African-led solutions during debates on “Silencing the Guns in Africa.” They advocated for investment in education, healthcare, innovation, and job opportunities as essential for peace.

The Minority believes an inclusive strategy will resolve Bawku's crisis. It will also strengthen Ghana’s commitment to peace, security, and development.
