The Minority in Parliament is concerned about rising crime. They cite issues like drug trafficking and money laundering since the NDC took power. These problems seem to be worsening after the NPP handed over control.
One major incident was a raid in Sapeiman, Accra. Authorities found 12 containers filled with gold and cash. However, National Security has not provided updates on the investigation. People are still unaware of who is involved or how much was seized.
Reverend John Ntim Fordjour spoke to journalists about this issue. He urged the government to be transparent in tackling drug trafficking and money laundering. “We demand accountability from National Security regarding the gold bars and cash retrieved,” he stated.
He also mentioned that the Minority Caucus has been patient. They originally gave National Security two months to update the public on their investigation.
Fordjour recalled a previous attempt by the former government to buy offshore vessels for the Ghana Navy in 2024. The NDC opposed this plan, leading to its cancellation. He warned that pirates might exploit this lack of security in Ghana’s waters.
The Minority linked this vulnerability to a pirate attack on a fishing boat on March 27, 2025. They believe it occurred because NDC MPs blocked plans for patrol vessels that could have protected Ghana’s waters.
The Minority is calling for more transparency and action from the government. They want effective measures to combat crime and enhance national security.
