The Minority in Parliament has condemned the dismissal of the CEO of Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH). They see it as an insult to health workers and a dangerous politicization of Ghana’s labor force.
In a statement on Friday, the Minority expressed concern over a recent conflict. This altercation involved the Minister of Health and TTH health workers, leading to the CEO's termination.
They criticized how the government handled this situation. They argue it shows disregard for hardworking Ghanaians and attempts to politicize public sector jobs.
The statement noted that this incident could harm labor relations in the public sector. It highlighted ongoing issues since Mahama's government took office in January 2025.
The Minority warned that these actions send a "chilling message" to essential service workers. Job security and professional dignity may be sacrificed for political gain.
Currently, the health sector faces a critical shortage of experienced personnel. The group called undermining health professionals' confidence "reckless" and "dangerous."
Doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals are vital for delivering care in Ghana. The country needs to strengthen and respect its healthcare workforce to meet patient needs.
The Minority accused the Minister of Health of poor conflict resolution skills. They also claimed he disrespected health professionals and called for urgent corrective action.
They stated that doctors deserve an apology for their treatment during this incident. This demand is not excessive; it is about their dignity.
In their appeal, the Minority urged President John Dramani Mahama to intervene immediately. They want him to restore confidence among health workers by reprimanding the minister.
"We call on the President to promote civility and respect towards Ghana's hardworking workforce," they concluded.
