The Minority Caucus on the Local Government and Rural Development Committee has condemned Mr. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi. He is the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Kumasi. The condemnation follows his alleged threat to traders during a decongestion exercise.
Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Ranking Member of the Committee, spoke out against the MCE's comments. He criticized his endorsement of a “military-democratic” approach. He also warned that physical action against non-compliant traders is reckless and dangerous.
In a press release shared with The Ghanaian Times, the Minority called the Mayor’s remarks unacceptable. They urged the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development to take swift action.
The statement emphasized that violence and threats are not acceptable in governance. It stated that using fear as a tool has no place in a constitutional democracy like Ghana.
