Minority criticises govt over GHC1 fuel hike

The Minority in Parliament has criticized the government. They oppose the GHC1 increase in petroleum prices. They argue this adds to the financial burden from rising utility tariffs.

They believe these changes hurt the government's reset agenda for economic recovery. During a debate on the Energy Sector Levy Amendment Bill, Collins Adomako Mensah spoke out. He is the Deputy Ranking Member on the Energy Committee.

Mensah accused President John Dramani Mahama of deceiving Ghanaians. He suggested that promises to ease economic hardship are unfulfilled.

He noted that petrol prices will rise by 105%. Diesel prices will increase by 103%. Marine fuel will see a staggering 400% hike.

Mensah questioned how Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor would explain this to his constituents. He wondered how farmers would cope with higher fuel costs.

He also pointed out recent increases in water and electricity rates. Now, he said, they are increasing taxes again. "Is this what they promised Ghanaians?" he asked.

He criticized the government for canceling the E-levy while introducing new levies. "This is just 'Dumsor' levy-E-levy promax," he stated.

Minority MPs have also marched to Police Headquarters over delays in election results for Ablekuma North.
