The Minority caucus in Parliament is calling for action from President John Mahama. They want him to address the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi.
Sammy Gyamfi was caught on camera giving out dollar bills. He was seen handing money to Patricia Koranteng, known as Nana Agradaa.
This incident has drawn widespread condemnation. Sammy Gyamfi has since apologized for his actions.
Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama, a member of the Finance Committee, spoke to journalists. He described Gyamfi's behavior as financial recklessness and shameful arrogance.
He stated that this incident reflects the arrogance and hypocrisy of the NDC government under President Mahama.
Dr. Mahama expressed outrage over how the government handles financial matters. He believes it disrespects citizens facing inflation and rising living costs.
He said, “This display of financial recklessness betrays public trust.” It also insults Ghanaians struggling with cedi inflation and high living expenses.
Dr. Mahama emphasized that it is worse because Gyamfi had previously promoted economic prudence and anti-corruption.
“It is shameful that someone who advocated for economic discipline committed this act,” he noted.
