Minority donates GHS200k to support Kantamanto market fire victims

The Minority in Parliament has donated GHS200,000. This donation supports victims of the Kantamanto Market fire. The fire occurred on January 2, 2025. It destroyed parts of the market in Accra. Many traders lost goods and property.

On April 15, the Minority Caucus visited the market. They were led by their leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin. During the visit, they called on the government for help. They urged the government to access funds from the Contingency Fund.

Afenyo-Markin said, “We appeal to the government to come to your aid.” He noted that a budget was recently approved. He mentioned that the contingency fund is available for crises.

He also urged companies with loans to reduce interest rates. This would provide financial relief for traders affected by the fire. Afenyo-Markin added, “This is GHS200,000; it is a modest contribution from us.”
