Minority petitions CHRAJ, CID, OSP over Sammy Gyamfi’s dollar gift saga

The Minority in Parliament has submitted a formal petition. They are asking three key state institutions to investigate a controversial dollar gift. The institutions are the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

This petition follows President John Dramani Mahama’s announcement on May 14, 2025. He stated he would not take further action against Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board. The President accepted Gyamfi’s public apology and considered the matter closed but issued a stern warning.

Despite this, the Minority disagrees with the President's decision. They believe Gyamfi's actions require independent investigation and cannot be dismissed by an apology alone. They argue that any findings should guide the President's decisions about Gyamfi’s future in public office.

Mumuni Mohammed Nurudeen leads this effort as the Member of Parliament for Nalerigu/Gambaga. He is joined by Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu and Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed. The Minority insists that these institutions must uncover all facts related to the dollar gift saga.

They want to determine if Gyamfi violated public service ethics or anti-corruption laws.
