Minority petitions Speaker Bagbin over NIB’s attempted arrest of Ntim Fordjour

The Minority in Parliament has urged Speaker Alban Bagbin to act quickly. They want him to uphold constitutional provisions and parliamentary protocols. This follows a controversial attempt by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to arrest Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South.

The incident happened on Wednesday. It raised serious concerns about security agencies and elected representatives. The Minority claims the attempted arrest at Fordjour's home did not follow proper procedures for engaging with sitting MPs.

Frank Annoh Dompreh, the Minority’s Chief Whip, sent a formal memo to the Speaker. The memo stressed the importance of respecting parliamentary privileges. It warned that ignoring these could undermine the authority of the legislature.

The attempted arrest is linked to investigations into drug trafficking and money laundering. These activities involve two international flights that passed through Ghana in March 2025. The details of Reverend Fordjour’s alleged connection are unclear.

The Minority insists any inquiries must follow due process. In their message to the Speaker, they reaffirmed their commitment to the rule of law. They emphasized that interactions between MPs and security bodies must adhere to constitutional safeguards.

They called on Mr. Bagbin to assert his authority. They want to prevent any future breaches of parliamentary sanctity.
