The Minority in Parliament has urged the Speaker to act quickly. They want to uphold constitutional provisions and parliamentary protocols. This follows an attempt to arrest Assin South MP, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour.
The incident happened on Wednesday. It raised serious concerns about security agencies and elected representatives.
The Minority claims that operatives from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) tried to arrest the MP at his home. They say this was done without following proper procedures for engaging with sitting Members of Parliament.
Frank Annoh Dompreh, the Minority’s Chief Whip, shared these concerns in a memo to the Speaker. The memo stressed the importance of respecting parliamentary privileges.
It warned that failing to do so could undermine the authority and independence of Parliament.
The attempted arrest is linked to investigations into drug trafficking and money laundering. These activities involve two international flights that passed through Ghana in March 2025.
Details about Reverend Fordjour’s alleged connection are unclear. However, the Minority insists inquiries must follow due process.
In their message to the Speaker, they reaffirmed their commitment to the rule of law. They emphasized that interactions between MPs and security bodies must follow constitutional safeguards.
They called on Mr. Bagbin to assert his authority. They want to prevent any future breaches of parliamentary sanctity.
