Minority pledges full cooperation into probe of ECG missing containers

The Minority in Parliament will cooperate with investigations into missing containers. Over 1,300 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are unaccounted for at Tema Harbour.

Former Deputy Energy Minister Collins Adomako Mensah expressed the Minority's commitment to accountability. He spoke during an interview on Joy FM's Newsnight on March 25.

He said, "I am as shocked as my brother John Jinapor." The ongoing disappearance of containers is unusual and alarming.

As the Minority Deputy Ranking on the Energy Committee, he assured full cooperation in bringing culprits to justice.

This situation arose after Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor raised concerns about the missing ECG containers. An investigative committee found widespread procurement breaches over several years.

Mr. Adomako Mensah stressed the need for a thorough investigation. He promised that the Minority would support efforts to uncover the truth and restore order at ECG.

When asked if he had prior knowledge of this issue, he denied it. "Not at all," he stated, explaining he joined the Ministry late in its operations.

He acknowledged that procurement breaches are troubling. He hopes they are not true, noting it’s unusual to merge departments and appoint someone inexperienced in contracts at ECG.

He emphasized that ECG has structured approval processes involving both management and board members. It is crucial to investigate how such a significant loss could happen.
