Calls for accountability are growing after the controversial “Dollar Gift” incident. The Minority in Parliament is taking action. They have petitioned three key investigative bodies to look into Acting Ghana Gold Board CEO Sammy Gyamfi's conduct.
President John Mahama accepted Gyamfi’s public apology but issued a stern caution. However, the Minority remains unconvinced by this response. They believe a simple apology is insufficient, especially regarding public trust and ethical governance.
The formal petition is directed to three organizations:
1. The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ)
2. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service
3. The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP)
The petition calls for a thorough investigation into Gyamfi's actions. It questions whether he breached any laws or ethical codes governing public officials.
Mumuni Mohammed Nurudeen, MP for Nalerigu/Gambaga, is leading this effort. He has support from Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu and Haruna Mohammed, Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
They argue that only an independent inquiry can uncover the facts and determine consequences.
A source close to the petitioners stated, “The integrity of public service must not be compromised.” They emphasized that no official should escape scrutiny due to their connections to power.
