The Minority Caucus in Parliament has raised concerns. They are alarmed by the government's failure to release key funds. This delay has lasted nearly six months under President John Mahama's administration. They call this delay unlawful and harmful to local governance.
At a press conference on Thursday, Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh spoke out. He is also the MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri. He accused the government of violating the Local Governance Act and constitutional provisions. The withheld funds include:
- District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF)
- GETFund
- National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF)
- Other constitutionally mandated allocations
Mr. Annoh-Dompreh stated that this delay is more than an administrative issue. It is a clear breach of statutory obligations. This situation undermines grassroots development and jeopardizes essential services.
The Minority noted that not releasing these funds has crippled local Assemblies. It has disrupted education and healthcare financing as well. Infrastructure projects across the country have also stalled.
"We demand immediate action from the government," said Mr. Annoh-Dompreh. He urged them to rectify this unlawful withholding of funds. The goal is to restore resources to those who need them.
The Caucus warned that further inaction would lead to consequences. They may explore all legal and legislative measures against the government.
