The Minority in Parliament is worried about rising drug trafficking and money laundering. This concern comes just three months after the NPP handed power to the NDC.
They point out that nearly two months have passed since a raid on 12 containers of gold and cash at Sapeiman, Accra. The National Security has not updated the public on this investigation. They want to know who is responsible and how much gold and cash was recovered.
The caucus also seeks accountability for a cargo suspected of carrying cocaine. This cargo arrived on two suspicious flights at Kotoka International Airport in March 2025.
Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, spoke to journalists. He urged the government to be transparent in addressing these issues.
"We demand accountability from National Security regarding the gold bars and cash," he said. "We originally gave them two months to update us."
Additionally, they linked a pirate attack on a Ghanaian fishing vessel to opposition against offshore patrol vessels. This attack occurred on March 27, 2025.
Fordjour recalled that the previous government tried to procure two offshore vessels for the Navy in 2024. The NDC opposed this plan strongly, leading to its cancellation.
He stated that pirates are aware of the Navy's lack of patrol vessels. This vulnerability makes Ghana's waters more susceptible to pirate attacks.
