Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh has criticized the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno. He called the IGP's recent statement about the Bawku conflict reckless and unfortunate.
During a press conference, Annoh-Dompreh expressed concern over the IGP’s comment. The IGP suggested that those who lay down their arms could join the police. Annoh-Dompreh said this was an inappropriate statement for someone in his position.
He emphasized that such remarks could set a dangerous precedent nationwide. They might encourage violence in other areas facing similar crises. Annoh-Dompreh urged the IGP to reconsider his words, stating they undermine law enforcement integrity.
He questioned if this meant others could also fight and then join the police. The ongoing Bawku conflict has seen renewed violence, raising national concerns for peace.
In response, President John Mahama assured that peace efforts would continue. The Asantehene-led mediation process will resume next week to restore calm in Bawku.
