The Minority in Parliament has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over its proposed 2025 budget, particularly targeting the party's promise to create jobs. Amin Adams, the Minority spokesperson on Finance, labeled these job promises as “sakawa jobs,” suggesting they are misleading and not genuine employment opportunities.

During a press conference, Adams expressed skepticism about the NDC's commitment to job creation, arguing that past initiatives have not yielded substantial results. He highlighted that previous budgets failed to deliver on promised jobs and questioned the feasibility of creating 1.2 million new jobs as indicated by the NDC for 2025.

Adams pointed out that many Ghanaians remain unemployed while those in power continue to make unfulfilled promises. He accused the government of lacking a coherent strategy for sustainable job creation and noted that existing programs have been ineffective in addressing unemployment.

The NDC's budget proposal also faced scrutiny regarding its funding sources and overall economic viability. The Minority raised concerns about potential increases in taxes and public debt levels as a result of financing these initiatives.

In response, an NDC representative defended the budget, asserting that it includes provisions aimed at bolstering economic growth and employment opportunities across various sectors. They emphasized a commitment to transparency and accountability in implementing these measures.

Overall, the debate reflects broader concerns about Ghana’s economic policies and their impact on job creation amid rising unemployment rates. The discussion is expected to continue as parliament reviews the proposed budget before finalizing it for 2025.
