Members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament walked out on Thursday. They protested the bail conditions for NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi.
All NPP MPs joined party leaders. They marched from Parliament House to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) headquarters. They showed solidarity with Chairman Wontumi, who is currently in custody.
The group blocked the EOCO entrance. They held hands and chanted songs demanding Wontumi's release. He has been in custody for nearly 48 hours.
Chairman Wontumi was arrested by EOCO on Tuesday, May 27. He went to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for questioning. Afterward, he was held at the EOCO head office in Accra.
His lawyer, Andy Appiah Kubi, confirmed an investigation into financial loss allegations against him. Wontumi was granted bail of GH¢50 million with two sureties that needed justification.
However, he spent the night at EOCO headquarters after failing to meet bail conditions.
