President John Dramani Mahama has called for an audit of the Buipe Sheanut Factory. He cited mismanagement and financial losses that led to its shutdown.
During a visit from the Ghana Cocoa, Coffee, and Sheanut Farmers Association (COCOSHE), Mahama expressed disappointment. He noted how the factory was thriving before the new administration took over.
“The factory was running well,” he said. “It had capital and stock of shea nut.” He explained that it was processing when the government changed.
Mahama criticized the new management for their actions. Instead of using raw materials for production, they sold them to another factory. They spent all the proceeds, leaving no funds for operations.
As a result, the factory had to shut down and lay off workers. Mahama emphasized this as a poor example of managing public resources.
He argued that if it were privately owned, it would be more efficient and still operational. He supports calls for an audit to hold those responsible accountable.
“I agree with the secretary,” he stated. “We must audit that factory and identify those responsible for this financial loss.”
