Missing ECG containers: NPP MP calls for thorough investigation

George Kwame Aboagye is the Member of Parliament for Asene-Akroso-Manso. He is also the Ranking Member on Energy. He has called for an investigation into over 1,000 missing containers. These containers belong to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and were at Tema Port.

Aboagye spoke in Parliament about this issue. He emphasized that it should not be ignored. He urged the House to form a bipartisan committee for a thorough investigation. His comments raised concerns among other MPs, who supported his call for a probe.

In an interview with Class News, Aboagye expressed his worries. He said the missing containers could harm Ghana's reputation. This is especially true with neighboring countries like Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali that rely on Ghana for trade.

The MP acknowledged that a Ghanaian national and several foreigners were arrested. However, he stressed the need for a deeper investigation to find those behind the theft. He believes the arrested Ghanaian likely did not act alone and may have accomplices.

Despite reassurances from the Minister about finding the culprits, Aboagye set a deadline of one to two weeks for action. He warned that if no progress occurs, he will raise the issue again in Parliament.

Aboagye also expressed shock at security failures at the port. He noted that security cameras and measures did not detect the missing containers.

He urged authorities to avoid partisan politics during their investigation. Aboagye stressed that a transparent and thorough probe is essential for justice.
