Godwin Tamakloe, Chief Risk and Compliance Officer of Mobile Money Limited, has denied claims about fraud. He spoke on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on May 2. Tamakloe said mobile money agents do not have access to customer PINs.
He explained that the PIN is system-generated. No one manually resets it; a button triggers an SMS with the new PIN. This system protects customer data and keeps users in control of their PINs.
Tamakloe added that customers can change their PIN to any number they want. His comments come as public concerns grow over mobile money wallet safety.
On April 16, a viral video showed a woman crying after losing over GHS 11,000 to scammers. She claimed she never shared her PIN, raising fears about internal leaks.
In response, MTN Ghana issued a statement denying unauthorized withdrawals from MoMo wallets. They emphasized that funds cannot be accessed without customer consent or information sharing with fraudsters.
