A mobile money vendor was shot and killed on Monday, April 28. The incident happened in Aflao, Ketu South Municipality, Volta Region. It occurred around 6:15 p.m., according to journalist Sylvia Awumey.
The victim was Christopher Ahordo, known as Colombo. He was working later than his usual closing time of 5:00 p.m. Witnesses reported that two masked men approached him with pump-action shotguns.
As Colombo prepared to close his shop, the robbers demanded money. They took a bag believed to contain cash. During their escape, one robber shot Colombo in the left side of his chest.
Colombo died at the scene. Witnesses could not help him because the robbers were firing shots while fleeing into nearby bushes. The incident took place at Gbagblakope, near the Diamond Cement Factory in Aflao.
Local residents retrieved Colombo's body and took it to the Ketu South Municipal Hospital mortuary. The municipal police have been informed and are investigating the case.
Mobile money robberies are becoming more common in Ghana and have resulted in many deaths this year. Several incidents have been reported in the Ashanti region alone, leading to fatalities.
In another development, three suspected gold smugglers were arrested by Goldbod security task force.
