In the first two months of 2025, mobile money transactions reached GH¢649.2 billion.
This is a 64.68% increase compared to last year.
In early 2024, the total value was GH¢394.2 billion.
Data from the Bank of Ghana shows January 2025 transactions were GH¢333 billion.
However, February saw a decline to GH¢316.2 billion.
This drop occurred despite the recent abolition of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy).
Analysts expect mobile money transactions to rise further soon.
This growth could strengthen the financial technology sector.
Currently, there are 74.1 million registered mobile money accounts.
This is an increase from 66.9 million in early 2024.
There are about 896,000 registered agents, with only 411,000 active agents.
In 2024, mobile money transactions totaled GH¢3.0192 trillion.
This reflects a year-on-year growth of approximately 57.90%.
