The lawyer for Mohammed Amadu Zakou is defending his client. Zakou is a New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist. He is on trial for publishing false news about the vice president.
On April 4, 2025, Zakou posted on social media. He suggested that the vice president should rest well. This was after the government announced her medical care in the UK.
Zakou was arrested for this post but has been granted bail. His lawyer spoke on Accra-based Asempa FM to clarify the situation.
He argued that Zakou meant well for the vice president. The lawyer explained that "rest well" means she should take a good break. He believes there is no need for such a case in court.
The lawyer stated, “When you Google 'rest well,' it doesn’t mean negativity.” He added that emojis can be interpreted legally and did not want to discuss them further.
During questioning by the National Intelligence Bureau, Zakou explained his emoji meanings. The lawyer emphasized that Zakou was praying for the vice president.
He believes people misunderstood his client's intentions. The lawyer is confident that Zakou will be exonerated in court. He urged Ghanaians not to assume negativity in every situation.
