Monitor CJ’s removal process keenly – GBA President to members

The President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Efua Ghartey, has made an important call. She urged members to monitor the ongoing proceedings about the Chief Justice's removal. This ensures that justice is done and seen to be done.

Ghartey spoke during the Association’s mid-year conference. She noted that these proceedings are unprecedented in Ghana's history. The Bar must educate the public about this process.

She highlighted a key question many Ghanaians have: What is a prima facie case? Ghartey stressed that the Bar should actively monitor this situation. They should express their opinions when necessary.

The GBA plans to discuss clear rules for removing Article 71 office holders, including judges. Ghartey stated that proposals will aim to reduce arbitrariness and promote transparency.

She emphasized the need for guidelines to ensure fair proceedings. These matters should be handled quickly and possibly in open court due to their public interest. The Bar must take the lead in making these proposals.

In related news, Appiah-Kubi stated that petitions against the Chief Justice are not serious enough for suspension.
