The government has increased funding to District Assemblies. This follows the uncapping of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF). More resources will now be available for local development and governance.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced this change. He spoke during a meeting with Swiss Ambassador Simone Giger. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to fiscal decentralisation.
Dr. Forson revealed that Parliament approved a new DACF formula. This formula directs 88% of allocations straight to District Assemblies.
Additionally, the government has allocated funds to pay Assembly Members. This recognizes their important role in local governance and community development.
These actions strengthen Ghana’s decentralisation agenda. Local leaders will have the resources needed to serve their communities effectively.
Dr. Forson emphasized that these measures will improve service delivery at the district level. They will also accelerate local development.
He praised Switzerland for its ongoing support of Ghana’s decentralisation efforts. He welcomed further collaboration to enhance fiscal accountability and governance.
