Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has assured Ghanaians that Morocco is safe.
He stated there is no reason for alarm among Ghanaians.
In a social media post, he reassured Ghanaians living in Morocco. They should not worry about their safety.
Ablakwa's statement comes as Ghana prepares to play Madagascar on Monday. This match is part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Morocco.
He wrote, “I have held fruitful discussions with the Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana.” Her Excellency Imane Ouaadil confirmed that Ghanaians and all Africans in Morocco are safe.
This assurance counters false claims circulating on social media. Some videos falsely suggest that 700 Africans are being massacred.
The footage in question is from an old incident on June 24, 2022. That tragic event resulted in the loss of 23 lives at the border. Moroccan and Spanish authorities have investigated this incident. Importantly, no Ghanaian casualties were reported.
These assurances come as Morocco increases scholarships for Ghanaian students. The number will rise from 90 to 180 starting this year.
Morocco and Ghana also plan to initiate a visa waiver agreement soon. This agreement will benefit travelers from both countries.
Additionally, both nations aim to enhance collaboration in agribusiness, tourism, and security.
