Moses Asaga sworn in as PURC Board Chair

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Moses Asaga as the new Board Chairman of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC). He is a former MP for Nabdam. Along with Asaga, four other members were also appointed.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah inaugurated the new board at a brief ceremony. He urged the team to focus on transparency and efficiency in regulating public utilities. Debrah thanked them for agreeing to work hard for the president.

He emphasized that the government is eager to make progress. However, he stressed that tasks must be done carefully. “We were voted into power to take care of the people’s interest,” he said.

Debrah highlighted the administration's commitment to performance in the energy sector. He stated that President Mahama wants all security services to perform excellently. He encouraged board members to give their best for public satisfaction.

Moses Asaga is an economist and banker with experience at PURC. He previously served on its board while he was Minister for Employment and Social Welfare. That board was chaired by Dr. Emmanuel Annan.

Asaga also served as CEO of the National Petroleum Authority from 2013 onward. He succeeded Alex Mould, who became CEO of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

His legislative experience includes chairing the parliamentary select committee on Mines and Energy. In this role, he influenced Ghana’s oil and gas policy direction.

The new board aims to strengthen PURC’s oversight role. They will work towards ensuring affordable, reliable, and sustainable utility services.
