Davis Opoku, the Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, is disappointed. He criticized the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) approach to internal reforms. He called the ongoing constitutional amendment process premature and lacking direction.
His comments followed a memorandum from NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong. This memo, issued on April 25, 2025, asked members to submit proposals for amendments. These proposals are needed before an Extraordinary National Delegates Conference in July.
Opoku questioned the need for these proposals. The findings from a committee investigating the party’s recent electoral defeat have not been shared yet.
He noted that this same party charged a committee to investigate their loss. When the committee visited his constituency, he made time to meet them. He emphasized how seriously he took this investigation.
Opoku expressed concern about transparency and communication after the committee's work ended. He pointed out that no summary of findings has been shared with members. Instead, they are being asked for proposals without any data or facts.
He believes real reform must be based on truth and accountability. “The national party must take its members seriously,” he stated. He added that pretending to fix issues without acknowledging failures won't help.
“If we fail to address our problems properly, they will not heal,” he warned. “Let us get it right.”
