Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the Interior Minister-designate, has urged the mandatory use of body cameras by Ghana Police Service officers to address rising cases of misconduct, including extortion and brutality.

Speaking during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 24, 2025, the Asawase MP highlighted growing public distrust in law enforcement due to such incidents.

He proposed a policy requiring officers to wear active body cameras during duty, ensuring an impartial record of their interactions.

“Body cameras will remove ambiguity and hold officers accountable for their actions,” he noted.

Muntaka emphasized that this initiative would rebuild public confidence and promote transparency within the police force, fostering a fairer relationship between law enforcement and citizens.
