Muntaka vows to recruit anti-drug volunteers into security services

Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has made a promise. He will prioritize recruiting individuals who help arrest drug addicts into security services. This is part of a larger government strategy to combat drug trafficking and abuse. The focus is especially on Zongo communities.

Muntaka spoke at a sensitization program in Sabon Zongo, Accra, on May 8. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to support Zongo youth through socioeconomic initiatives. He emphasized that community members know each other well. They must unite to say no to drug abuse for success.

He encouraged local youth to provide names of those willing to help. "Give me 10 to 15 names," he said. "By the end of this month, I will ensure you can do your work." He assured that qualified individuals interested in security services would be prioritized during recruitment.

Muntaka also addressed police officers' responsibilities in Zongo communities. He warned that officers who do not respond quickly to drug complaints would be transferred. "Do not destroy properties or take the law into your own hands," he advised.

He urged community members to hand over arrested individuals to the police. Muntaka instructed police commanders to respond swiftly when called upon. Delays from police make it difficult for community efforts against drugs, he stated.
