The Bono Region has seen many high-profile murder cases. Many of these cases remain unresolved. Families are still waiting for justice.
Notable among these is the Abesim case from August 2021. Richard Appiah, a 28-year-old footballer, is accused of two murders. He allegedly killed his stepbrother, Louis Agyemang, and 15-year-old Stephen Sarpong. Appiah reportedly stored their remains in a refrigerator at Alaska Junction.
The Bono Regional Police quickly arrested Appiah. Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, then Acting Inspector General of Police, visited the community to offer condolences. The case was moved to the Accra High Court nearly four years ago but has made little progress since then.
Yeboah Asuama, father of one victim, expressed frustration over the situation. He said he lacks transportation to attend court in Accra. “I thought the police would help with transport,” he told Channel One News. He is asking for the trial to be moved back to Sunyani for faster proceedings.
In February this year, another murder occurred in Dormaa West District. Mobile money vendor Japhat Yeboah was killed at Nkrankwanta. Six suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Another shocking case happened in Ahyiayem in 2024. A 60-year-old woman and her daughter were found murdered in their home. Police say investigations are ongoing.
These recurring crimes have increased public anxiety and distress among families affected by violence. There are growing calls for authorities to prioritize these cases and ensure justice is served promptly.
