Musah Ahmed decries political interference in Chairman Wontumi’s case

Musah Ahmed, a private legal practitioner, has raised concerns about political interference. He is the lead counsel at Ahmed Legal Consult. His worries focus on the investigation of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi.

Chairman Wontumi is under investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). He faces allegations of fraud, financial loss to the state, and money laundering. His arrest has caused controversy. Reports indicate that some New Patriotic Party members are trying to influence the investigation.

On JoyNews’ AM News, Mr. Ahmed condemned this political interference. He believes it undermines the integrity of the legal process. “The political interference in this matter is too much,” he said. He questioned why politicians are involved when Wontumi has legal representation.

Mr. Ahmed accused party members of pressuring EOCO during the investigation. “They are putting undue pressure on EOCO,” he stated. He also asked why similar actions were not taken for ordinary theft cases.

In another development, Chairman Wontumi withdrew a legal motion at the High Court in Accra. This motion sought a review of his bail conditions. It was scheduled for hearing on June 3, 2025, but was withdrawn on June 2.

Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai confirmed that Wontumi remains under active investigation. Asset recovery measures are being pursued as part of this case.

Mr. Ahmed's comments reflect growing calls for a depoliticized judicial process. Legal experts and civil society organizations urge respect for the rule of law in high-profile cases.
