Musah Dunkwah, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, discussed key figures blamed for the NPP's defeat in the 2024 elections.
He spoke on Joy FM's Super Morning Show about a post-election survey by his firm. The survey allowed respondents to name who they believed caused the NPP's loss.
Dunkwah explained that they first gathered open responses. Then, they narrowed down the names for a structured survey.
The data showed former President Nana Akufo-Addo was most blamed. Sixty-eight percent of respondents cited his administration’s performance as crucial to the party’s failure.
Dunkwah noted public frustration with Akufo-Addo's dismissive tone. His controversial remarks in the Ashanti Region upset many voters.
Many were disappointed by his refusal to make changes in government. His disregard for traditional authorities also did not resonate well with voters.
Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was named second-most responsible. Forty percent of respondents attributed the defeat to his economic management.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party's 2024 presidential candidate, was cited by 37%. Respondents felt his campaign lacked confidence and inspiration.
Other figures mentioned included Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh (33%), various appointees (32%), and Members of Parliament (25%). Kennedy Agyapong, who did not lead into the general election, was blamed by 9%.
Dunkwah challenged claims that voter apathy caused the defeat in strongholds. He stated that this analysis is flawed based on hard numbers.
“Nearly 20% of self-identified NPP supporters did not vote,” he said. Of those who planned to vote for Bawumia, 17% switched or abstained on election day—14% voted for Mahama instead.
