The Federation of Muslim Councils (FMC) has expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for declaring March 31 and April 1, 2025, as public holidays in honor of Eid-ul-Fitr.
In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Al-Hajj Muhammad Amir Kpakpo Addo, the FMC acknowledged the President’s decision as a fulfillment of his campaign promise to the Muslim community.
The Council highlighted that the additional holiday would ease the challenges some Muslims face in fully observing the festival, given the 29 or 30-day lunar calendar.
“We are grateful to President Mahama for recognizing the significance of Eid-ul-Fitr and granting an extra holiday to allow Muslims to celebrate without restrictions,” the statement read.
The FMC further noted that the gesture promotes national unity, religious inclusivity, and social cohesion, enabling Muslims to mark the occasion with their families.
The Council praised the President’s leadership and urged all Muslims to celebrate peacefully while upholding the values of tolerance and understanding.
“Eid Mubarak to all Muslims in Ghana and around the world!” the statement concluded.
