Dr. Bryan Acheampong Aims for Presidency

Dr. Bryan Acheampong, the MP for Abetifi, is eyeing the presidency. He plans to contest in the upcoming presidential primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Acheampong served as Minister for Food and Agriculture under former President Akufo-Addo. He has shared his reasons for wanting to run for president.

In a video on June 4, 2025, he spoke in pidgin. He aims to connect with young people, especially those on social media.

He emphasized his focus on jobs, food security, youth development, safety, and infrastructure. A committee will gather public input on their vision for Ghana.

Seeking Alignment

Acheampong's decision to run comes from public encouragement. He believes it’s essential to align his vision with that of Ghanaians and the NPP.

The committee has one month to tour Ghana and gather opinions. They will compile a report aligning these visions with Acheampong's ideas.

He stated that it’s important to seek alignment between personal goals and party objectives.

Reflecting on Recent Defeats

Acheampong noted that the NPP must reflect on its recent electoral defeat. He acknowledged mistakes that led Ghanaians to vote for another party.

He expressed concern about blame games within the party after the loss. Such behavior could harm future prospects for the NPP.

"The 2024 election did not go well," he said. "We need unity now more than ever."

Experience Matters

Acheampong highlighted his extensive experience within the NPP. He has been a grassroots organizer, parliamentary candidate, MP, cabinet minister, and party financier.

This experience shaped his vision for Ghana's development. He intends to share this vision with both the party and Ghanaians.

Call for Unity

He urged NPP supporters to remain calm after their electoral defeat. Acheampong is confident in a comeback but stressed unity is crucial.

"I believe that the NPP will come back," he said passionately. "We must unite as a party."

He emphasized how important communication is among members during this time. After one month of consultations, he promised further updates: "This is your brother, Bryan."
