My trial was politically motivated – Gyakye Quayson

James Gyakye Quayson, the MP for Assin North, feels vindicated. He made this statement after his acquittal on April 9. The Accra High Court cleared him of charges after three years of legal proceedings.

Quayson faced allegations of forgery and perjury. These claims suggested he held Canadian citizenship when he ran for parliament in 2020. After the ruling, he spoke to journalists about his belief in his innocence.

He said, “When you are not wrong, there is nothing to worry about.” He added that he came to serve his community, not to cause trouble.

Quayson emphasized that he followed all legal requirements before the elections. However, he believes the case was politically motivated. “We all knew it was politically driven,” he stated.

His trial attracted national attention due to its implications for citizenship laws and parliamentary representation. Quayson's acquittal ends a long legal battle and is significant for his political career.
