NADMO confirms no casualties from Sunday’s heavy rains

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) confirmed no fatalities occurred after heavy rainfall in Accra on Sunday, May 18.

Chief Disaster Control Officer Mohammed Jafaro spoke to Channel One TV. He mentioned that NADMO received many distress calls from residents. Areas affected included Adenta, Tema, and Kaneshie.

In response, NADMO quickly sent emergency teams to help and assess the situation. Mr. Jafaro stated, “We have received many distress calls for help.” He assured that there were no casualties at that time.

He explained that flooding was due to poor drainage and sanitation issues. These longstanding problems worsen the effects of heavy rains.

“Many communities lack proper drainage,” he noted. “Some areas are filled with filth, and there are engineering defects.”

NADMO advised the public to stay alert during heavy rainfall. They urged people to avoid flood-prone areas to protect lives and property.
