The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has defended Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak. He donated 1,500 bags of rice and 800 boxes of oil and soap. This was for victims of the recent Adum PZ fire in Kumasi. Some victims initially rejected these items.
NADMO emphasized that these relief items are vital for survival. The fire displaced many families, leaving them struggling to meet basic needs.
After the fire last week, NADMO quickly mobilized food and hygiene supplies. However, some recipients refused the donations. They expressed concerns about the quality of the rice and the suitability of the soap and oil.
NADMO Director Dr. Joseph Kuyon addressed this rejection. He explained that emergency supplies aim to provide immediate relief to vulnerable people.
He said, “Some can only eat when they go to market. Others can't afford soap or necessities without going out.” He stressed that their focus is on helping those most in need during emergencies.
Dr. Kuyon assured a thorough assessment will follow. A formal report will be submitted to guide further assistance.
He stated, “We have identified affected individuals and categorized their needs.” This initial relief effort supports those who cannot afford daily necessities. Afterward, a report will help restore normalcy for these families.
