The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has urged the suspension of discussions on the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) Bill, set to be presented to Parliament on December 16.
NAGRAT argues that the bill lacks adequate stakeholder consultation and should be reconsidered by the next Parliament.
At a press conference in Accra, NAGRAT President Angel Carbonu emphasized the need for broader engagement, stating that the bill addresses more than the cost of Free SHS and requires deeper scrutiny. He also criticized Parliament's tendency to pass significant laws during its final sittings, calling it "morally wrong."
Carbonu further advocated for a targeted implementation of President-elect John Mahama’s tuition-free proposal for first-year university students, citing Ghana's financial constraints and the need for prudent spending.
