NALAG President commends Zoomlion CEO for outstanding contribution to sanitation and local development

The President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Alfred Asiedu Adjei, praised Mr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong. He is the CEO of Zoomlion Ghana Limited. Adjei recognized Agyepong's commitment to improving sanitation and creating jobs.

This commendation occurred during a courtesy call by NALAG's leadership. Adjei was accompanied by General Secretary Mr. Sheriff J. Amarh and Mr. Justice Senyo Tsitsia. The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration between NALAG and Zoomlion for national development.

Zoomlion is a leading waste management company in Ghana. It has partnered with Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) for years. Their efforts have improved sanitation infrastructure and public cleanliness across the country.

Adjei acknowledged Zoomlion’s contributions to environmental sustainability. He noted that their work supports local assemblies in meeting public health mandates. This aligns with the national vision for decentralization and effective governance.

He stated, “We cannot overlook Zoomlion’s role in strengthening sanitation systems.” The NALAG President expressed appreciation and proposed deeper collaboration to empower local structures.

A key focus was promoting local economic development through structured partnerships. Adjei suggested initiatives to enhance revenue generation for local assemblies, reduce poverty, and create jobs.

He also emphasized training Unit Committee Members who are vital for local governance. Public education on sanitation was highlighted as essential to prevent disease outbreaks.

Adjei stressed that equipping Unit Committee Members benefits the entire nation. He said, “When local governance structures are strengthened, everyone benefits.”

The delegation called for expanded public education on waste management in underserved communities. With urbanization increasing, behavioral change through education is crucial for sustaining sanitation improvements.

“Preventing cholera and malaria starts with education,” he noted. He added that Zoomlion’s experience makes them an ideal partner for this goal.

In response, Agyepong welcomed the visit warmly and appreciated NALAG's recognition of Zoomlion’s contributions. He reiterated his company's readiness to partner with local governments.

“Zoomlion believes in building from the ground up,” he stated. “Our success relies on trust with MMDAs.”

The meeting concluded with an agreement to form a joint working group. This group will develop a roadmap for their partnership moving forward.

This collaboration aims to implement training programs, community education campaigns, and economic development models tailored to local needs. It marks a renewed cooperation between the private sector and local government institutions focused on inclusive national development.
