NAPO confirms NIB probe into his tenure as Education Minister

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is under investigation by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). He is a former Energy Minister and the 2024 Vice Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The investigation relates to his time as Education Minister. Dr. Opoku Prempeh, known as NAPO, spoke to journalists in Accra on June 4, 2025. He mentioned that he had been invited by the NIB twice for questioning.

He said, "I have been invited by the NIB on two different occasions." He added that some issues from his tenure are unclear to him. However, he noted that records exist to clarify these matters.

Recently, President John Dramani Mahama's administration has begun investigating former government officials. Various security agencies are looking into past activities of the previous government.

In addition to Dr. Opoku Prempeh, Bernard Antwi Boasiako is also under investigation. Chairman Wontumi faces scrutiny from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for alleged money laundering and corruption.

President Mahama announced that the Attorney-General is building 33 corruption cases against former appointees. These cases arise from investigations by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Team. This anti-corruption task force was established after Mahama's election victory in 2024.

The team aims to gather information on suspected corruption from the previous administration and report it for action.
