Seized Cannabis
The Narcotics Control Commission (NARCOC) seized a large amount of cannabis on Monday. The cannabis is valued at GHC2 million (Two Million Ghana Cedis). It was taken from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) in Ho.
This consignment includes 3,680 slabs in 49 bags. The cannabis has been moved to NARCOC Headquarters in Accra with heavy escort.
The NIB operatives seized the substance last Thursday, May 29, 2025. This occurred in Zadolakope, a riverside community in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.
According to a reliable source at NARCOC, each slab is worth GHC300 (Three Hundred Ghana Cedis) in Ho. In Accra, each slab has a street value of GHC500 (Five Hundred Ghana Cedis).
Before taking custody of the cannabis, NARCOC officials conducted an on-site test. This confirmed that the substance was indeed cannabis. Their quick action helped remove this illegal substance from circulation.
This seizure highlights ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trafficking nationwide. The source mentioned areas like Kpandu Anfoega and Golokwati as places where cannabis cultivation is common.
Other notable areas include Wegbe, Adidome, and Dzemeni in the Volta Region. In the Eastern Region, Huhunya and Asesewa are also known for cannabis cultivation.
Boso and Afram Plains are additional hotspots for this issue. The Bono East/West and Ahafo regions are also involved in these activities.
