Nana Adu Gyamfi Mensah, the Coordinating Secretary of NASPA, has raised concerns. He claims there is “undue interference” by senior officials of the NSA. This issue is particularly affecting the NASPA district delegate conferences in the Ashanti Region.
On June 3, he issued a statement about an incident at CLOSAG Auditorium in Kumasi. Armed police officers allegedly tried to stop a scheduled election on June 2. They claimed they had orders from NSA Headquarters to halt the election.
The officers approached regional executives and demanded to lock the venue. However, they did not provide any official documentation for their actions.
Mr. Mensah condemned this as an attack on NASPA's autonomy and democratic values. He noted that the election process was properly organized with no complaints filed.
Delegates and candidates from all 43 districts were already seated when the disruption occurred. The regional executives attempted to hold only the conference but were rejected by armed officers.
To avoid further conflict, the executives yielded but later reconvened with aspirants. Thirteen out of twenty agreed to hold elections on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
“This incident shows worrying administrative overreach,” Mr. Mensah stated. He emphasized that NASPA must operate independently without coercion or political manipulation.
He urged the public, media, and civil society organizations to monitor NASPA closely. They should hold relevant authorities accountable for their actions.
“I will protect transparency, democracy, and service personnel’s will,” he concluded in his statement.
