The Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Technology, Sam George, has directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to conduct a frequency audit. This audit aims to recover state resources unlawfully held by private individuals.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, April 9, the Minister announced this initiative. It is part of a broader government effort called Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL). This program seeks to enforce accountability and transparency in managing state assets under the Ministry’s control.
“I assure the people of Ghana that I will address these issues,” he said. “I will act decisively to restore sound financial stewardship in the Ministry.”
He explained that the first phase of the frequency audit focuses on broadcasting frequencies. This phase has already revealed serious irregularities.
“The exercise identified noncompliance incidents leading to a tax penalty of about 9.5 million Ghana cedis,” he stated. “There are also infractions that may require immediate shutdowns or revocation of licenses.”
The Minister assured the public that the government is committed to correcting these breaches. They aim to ensure lawful management of communication resources.
In addition to the frequency audit, Mr. George discussed efforts to revitalize Ghana Post. He wants it to benefit from increased e-commerce activity.
“I have taken steps to position Ghana Post better for e-commerce,” he noted. “This will help ensure Ghana is ready for trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area.”
