The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the first respondents in an election petition case of stalling legal proceedings.
This case challenges the 2024 parliamentary election results for three constituencies: Obuasi East, Ahafo Ano North, and Ahafo Ano South West.
The controversy started after a High Court ordered a recount of disputed results from the 2024 general elections. After the recount, the Electoral Commission declared New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates as winners in these constituencies.
However, NDC candidates have contested this declaration in court. They are seeking an injunction to prevent NPP MPs from taking their seats.
During the last adjournment, a substituted service order was set aside. This order was meant to notify respondents of the legal proceedings. The respondents' legal team argued that this method of service was irregular.
Although petitioners later followed proper procedures to serve the respondents, their injunction application was not heard on April 4.
Evans Amankwah, counsel for the petitioners, accused respondents of using delay tactics. He stated that NPP MPs and their lawyers are unnecessarily prolonging this case.
Amankwah emphasized the urgency of resolving this matter quickly. He said that if granted, the injunction would compel both parties to expedite legal processes.
Despite these challenges, the NDC remains hopeful about securing justice. The petitioners seek to annul the 2024 parliamentary results for all three constituencies.
The case has been adjourned until April 17, 2025.
