Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a warning. He urged government appointees to avoid corruption.
Asiedu Nketiah stated that a criminal is still a criminal. This applies whether they are from the NDC or NPP. He emphasized that the reset agenda targets all corrupt officials, not just political opponents.
Speaking at the 46th anniversary of the June 4 uprising in Odumase Krobo, he said, “We must send a strong signal to our own party functionaries.” He added that misconduct by current appointees will be addressed similarly to past officials.
He stressed that Ghanaians need to see real accountability. “It is about resetting the country and holding people accountable,” he noted. Political parties should not protect criminals, regardless of their affiliation.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama made a clear statement on corruption investigations. He will not influence any anti-corruption agencies regarding his appointees.
Mahama revealed that 33 corruption cases are being prepared against Akufo-Addo's appointees. These cases were uncovered by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Team he established after the 2024 election.
During a meeting with the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption at Jubilee House, Mahama explained further. The ORAL Committee identified these cases and handed them over to the Attorney General.
He mentioned special investigative teams are looking into each case. Some have already found evidence of illicit property acquisitions and are beginning prosecutions.
Mahama assured his Attorney General that he would not interfere with their work. “If anti-corruption agencies pursue anyone, I won’t influence them,” he stated. This includes investigations into those from previous administrations currently under scrutiny.
