NDC displaying political witch-hunting, not enforcing the law - Ahiagbah on Adenta Kumi's arrest

Richard Ahiagbah, the Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is unhappy. He criticizes the government's harsh treatment of NPP members suspected of legal issues.

His comments come after Alfred Ababio Kumi's arrest today. Kumi is a former NPP parliamentary aspirant. He was charged with publishing false news. This followed his petition to President John Mahama about a committee investigating Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's removal.

In his petition, Kumi claimed two committee members and a lawyer met privately at a restaurant. He raised concerns about potential bias in the investigation.

On JoyNews' The Pulse, Ahiagbah questioned the timing of Kumi’s arrest. He suggested it was politically motivated.

He stated, "The manner in which you do it suggests political witch hunt." Ahiagbah emphasized that the government should be aware of this perception. He accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of using state institutions to suppress dissent instead of enforcing the law fairly.

The NPP claims recent arrests reflect a pattern of intimidation against opposition figures like Kumi. They argue that these actions undermine democracy and show where power lies.

Kumi submitted his petition on May 19, calling for the dissolution of the Chief Justice removal committee due to integrity concerns. His arrest soon after has led to accusations of retaliation from the NPP.

The party has condemned Kumi's arrest as part of a broader crackdown on opposition voices.
